In these times of self isolation and social distancing, a number of my outdoor photoshoots have been postponed. Other than a special car which I have shot in my garage (images coming soon) I needed a creative outlet so decided to grab a couple of my 1:18 model cars and shoot them in the home studio.
The two subjects are a 1990 Ferrari 641/2 driven by Alain Prost and a 1994 Benetton B194 which Michael Schumacher drove to his first F1 world title. To make the task a little more challenging I decided to shoot the cars with the plan to composite them into new backgrounds - which meant being very careful with things like camera position/angle and how to light the cars. I used a mixture of my Profoto B1 and a couple of LED panels to create the right look. Since the Ferrari was going into a scene with a wet surface I even used a paint brush to apply a bit of water to the tyres to help place it in the environment.
Hope you enjoy the images, drop a comment below if you have any ideas of other photos I can create with my model cars (mix of road and F1).
